The Power of One Business
A conference of firsts
M&P have worked closely with Poundland over the last five years, to really move their annual conference on. Each year, we’ve raised the bar together on the environment, production values, format and content of the event which now hosts 1200 store managers, head office staff and senior employees.
This year was a real conference of firsts, with the event being held over two days for the first time, the introduction of a gala dinner, an expanded and more prominent supplier showcase and with the inclusion of clothing retailer Pep & Co as part of the Poundland brand.
One Powerful Business
This year the two day extravaganza, consisted of plenary sessions, breakouts, a supplier exhibition and an awards dinner. Entitled ‘The Power of One’, this year’s conference aimed to communicate the benefits of working as one powerful business, and being stronger together. The communication focused on how increments of one can make a big difference to the overall picture – the ripple effect of small changes can be huge over time. The event was an opportunity to discuss strategy for the year ahead as well as hearing about incentives, making sure delegates were motivated and ready to play their part in the brand’s ambitious plans.
This was Poundland’s second year at ACC Liverpool, having hosted its conference at the waterfront venue last year. At M&P, we love it when we get the opportunity to work with local partners, and the ACC Liverpool is a venue we’re proud to have worked on some fantastic events with. No matter what changes to the original brief occur, the addition of breakouts, gala dinners or ever growing exhibitions, the experience is a truly collaborative one, to make sure that together, we provide the best solution for the client.
1200 excited delegates arrived bright and early at the venue and registered in the convention centre’s galleria. The plenary focussed on updates from across the business, recognising the achievements of those who had gone above and beyond. Staff were also given HR, development, financial and distribution updates throughout the afternoon.
A brand new central supplier marketplace, with opportunities to see the latest in new product development and ranges, dominated a second Hall, bringing product front and centre at the event. Suppliers had the opportunity to speak directly to the store managers and head office delegates who can really make a difference to product sales. As well as catering and networking, the remaining half of the room was used to create theatrical themed areas including Halloween and Christmas to display upcoming ranges to best effect. Both suppliers, and the Poundland teams, really went to town on making this area a truly immersive product experience!
Poundland also used the arena space, another part of the ACC Liverpool campus, for the first time with a dinner and awards ceremony taking place on the arena floor. Entertainment was provided by Poundland staff as the finalists of “Poundland’s Got talent’ performed for their colleagues backed by a professional band.
